    Job Description

SENIOR RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, FLAVELL LAB (https://flavell.mit.edu/) , Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, to work on research aimed at understanding how neural circuits generate complex behaviors (navigation, state-dependent behaviors, and more) and participating in computational analysis and modeling of population neural activity in freely-behaving animals. Responsibilities include processing calcium imaging data to extract calcium traces via software packages, including GPU computing, custom-trained neural networks, etc.; analyzing and interpreting data, applying systems neuroscience approaches to examine high-dimensional neural data; performing in vivo calcium imaging experiments aimed at understanding how neural circuits generate complex behaviors in the nematode C. elegans (wet-lab component is optional); assisting with lab management and organization, equipment maintenance, and maintaining a safe work environment; and performing other duties as assigned. The position offers an opportunity to engage in innovative research and contribute to overall research directions and discoveries and to understanding of how activity in the brain gives rise to thoughts and behaviors.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; exposure to a research lab; proficiency with at least one of following: Python, Julia, MATLAB, or R; excellent debugging skills; experience with GitHub as a tool for code version control, organizing, and publishing software packages; familiarity with essential data structures and algorithms; experience with parallel/distributed computing; strong quantitative skills and basic familiarity with biology and/or neuroscience as demonstrated through coursework or research experience; excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze data and present it in a format suitable for publication, function effectively in a team-oriented environment, and balance the demands of an immersive research project with basic lab managerial tasks.
