PPG INDUSTRIES, INC. Lead Operations Engineer in Cleveland, Ohio

As a Lead Operations Engineer, you will provide engineering support to production processes and will interact with a multitude of different departments including technical, maintenance, planning, QA, RM procurement, and IT. You will help direct, define, initiate, and implement projects that improve the overall process from a safety, ergonomic, quality, and/or productivity standpoint. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Departmental EHS Initiatives (CORITY, PSM, Audits, etc.) for the Engineering team.
  • Improvement of process and equipment across the Site
  • Participation on root cause investigations related with process standpoint.
  • Leadership to improve process performance.
  • Leadership on technologies transfers in and out of the Plant ensuring the right implementation in the production process.
  • Training for production teams related with process implementation or improvements.
  • Maintain equipment technology assignment ensuring capacity analysis and compatibility analysis managing the correct assignation.
  • Maintain equipment technology assignments to prevent cross contaminations.
  • Perform Process Optimization/Cycle Time Improvements
  • Optimize Process Parameters and Implement Process Changes/Projects
  • Participate in and Support Department Related Kaizen Events
  • Evaluate and Find Ways to Improve Equipment Utilization
  • Troubleshoot Equipment/Process Issues
  • Introduce New Technologies or Processes, Develop Standard Work, Process Templates, Instructional Changes and Assist with Operator Training
  • Drive Root Cause Investigation Process and Implement Meaningful Corrective Actions
  • Formula Maintenance
  • Implement Operator/Supervisor Change Requests and Suggestions
  • May involve some evening or weekend phone troubleshooting and support.
  • Prioritize day to day activities and monitor department progress - making sure that engineers are distributed to the right priorities and there's progress on deliverables of tasks.
  • Ensuring that the department complete required safety training
  • Monitor actions in CAIR system to ensure timelines are met.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+years' experience with a broad understanding of engineering systems and chemical processes required; manufacturing processes, batch paint processing experience preferred.
  • Lean/6 sigma and Toyota manufacturing principles experience a plus.
