U.S. Army Sustainment Command Transportation Assistant (Personal Property) in Fort Wainwright, Alaska

Summary About the Position: Performs a full range of transportation services for active duty military personnel, reserve components, and Department of Defense (DOD) civilians in connection with processing authorized personal property shipment/storage entitlements paid for at government expense. Conducts individual and mass counseling sessions on an appointment and emergency walk-in basis, informing members of the entitlements and responsibilities related to the shipment/storage of personal property. Responsibilities Schedules appointments over the phone or on a walk-in basis and computes the amount of time needed for the counseling appointment based upon information contained in the member's orders. Provides Do it Yourself (DITTY) / Personally Procured Move (PPM) entitlement briefs to all active-duty members retiring or separating. Brief includes and explanation regarding procedures to shop privately owned vehicles, storage allowances, etc. Advises member or dependent regarding shipment of special items and the liability of the commercial carrier for loss and/or damage of these items. Performs a cost calculation on the move, and enters the estimated cost at the end of the accounting classification. Ensures information provided reflects most current law, regulation and procedure. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS 07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Reviewing shipping documents utilizing automated moving systems; and 2) Determining best mode of transportation for goods, and 3) Advising customers of rights and responsibilities concerning policies and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as accounting, finance, management, business, or similar field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and Management Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Planning and Evaluating Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
