MD Anderson Cancer Center Principal Epic Analyst for HIM / Hospital Coding in Houston, Texas

The Principal EHR Systems Analyst is a primary support contact for the assigned application and communicates directly with the Manager to discuss design decisions. He/she communicates directly with the IT analysts and ensures that all key decisions are implemented across the application. The Principal EHR Systems Analyst will be responsible for coordinating and communicating with the end users and representatives from all areas of the hospital related to their specific application.

Ideal candidates will be Epic HIM certified

The Principal EHR Systems Analyst should have an understanding of MD Anderson's objectives for utilizing an EMR and the ability to recognize opportunities for process redesign that will help the organization maximize the benefits of the system.

Standards & Testing

The Principal EHR Systems Analyst should have an understanding of MD Anderson's objectives for utilizing an EMR and the ability to recognize opportunities for process redesign that will help the organization maximize the benefits of the system.

Build, Content Management and System Configuration

  1. Implement and manage complex changes or projects for the system in a timely manner while proactively communicating with end users and prioritize work for the team

  2. Maintain / troubleshoot build within EHR

  3. Modify Epic content as prescribed by the project team

  4. Lead/communicate/participate in the implementation/optimization efforts and receive approval from one or more governing bodies

  5. Focus on patient safety when analyzing system configuration and enhancements

  6. Perform high risk/complex system maintenance as needed

  7. Oversee and when necessary, assist in routine build to meet build metrics

  8. Manage multiple projects, work with integrated teams and support complex problems, prepare status reports for leadership

  9. Lead and provide expertise to optimize the design and development of systems

10.Provides expert and creative solutions to user requirements and problems by taking the initiative to research, resolve and respond to inquiries

11.Provide technical expertise and leadership for the design and development of systems

Support

  1. Provide support and problem resolution to customers including SI Events

  2. Respond to requests in a timely manner while proactively communicate expectations for procedures, service arrival (ETA), or project deliverables to stakeholders

  3. Lead and/or participate in after-hours application support and downtime procedures

  4. Provide technical and workflow knowledge of assigned applications to better troubleshoot and resolve incident

  5. Mentor staff to enhance their knowledge of assigned applications

  6. Facilitate issue resolution with Epic technical support

Liaison, Networking Skills and Business knowledge

  1. Collect, analyze and prioritize the information gathered regarding potential system enhancements and workflow resolution to customers

  2. Manage liaison relationships with customers and OneIS to provide effective technical solutions and customer service

  3. Collaborate or lead analysts to obtain technical and workflow knowledge of business operations

  4. Manage and execute the adherence to regulatory requirements, quality standards and best practices for systems and processes and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders

  5. Attend meetings, participates in workgroups, and/or serves on committees as needed

  6. Coach and provide advice, guidance, encouragement, constructive feedback and transfer knowledge to less experienced team members across OneIS and the institution

  7. Serves as a team lead an may have direct reports

  8. May participate in the employee performance evaluation process for assigned staff

HIM Functions Maintain proper knowledge transfer and documentation creation for HIM administration tasks to share with the all team members.

  1. Provide operational support for Epic deployments

  2. Ensure all Epic Nova notes are reviewed/built without escalation for missed deadlines

  3. Maintaining integration go live and post go live support with proper testing during Epic SU updates and upgrades

  4. Ensure minimal escalations from 4INFO & end users for all items in Cherwell Queues (both during business hours and afterhours)

  5. Ensure no changes to production without an approved change control

  6. Working with the coding leadership to identify areas for improving workflows.

Other duties as assigned

Education Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree

Certification Required : Must obtain Epic certification issued by Epic within 180 days of date of entry into job.

Preferred Certification: Epic HIM

Experience: Seven years of relevant healthcare information technology experience. May substitute required education with years of related experience on a one to one basis. May substitute up to two years of clinical experience or relevant business experience for relevant healthcare information technology experience.

Preferred Experience: 2-3 years supporting the EHR Hospital Coding Module , 2-3 years experience leading medium - large IT projects as alead analyst/builder?
