Science Systems and Applications, Inc. Information Technology Intern in Lanham, Maryland

Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) is seeking an IT intern at our Lanham, MD facility. As an IT intern, your role will involve gaining practical experience and exposure to various aspects of Information Technology within our organization. While specific tasks may vary depending on the projects and needs at hand, here are some general responsibilities you can expect:

  • Technical Support: Providing assistance to users with hardware, software, and network issues. This could include troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, and providing solutions either remotely or in person.

  • System Administration: Assisting with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of computer systems, servers, and network infrastructure. This might involve tasks such as installing operating systems, managing user accounts, and ensuring system security.

  • Software Installation and Updates: Helping with the installation, configuration, and testing of software applications. This could involve deploying updates, patches, and security fixes across various systems.

  • Data Management: Assisting with data backups, storage management, and data recovery processes. This might include setting up backup schedules, verifying data integrity, and maintaining documentation.

  • IT Asset Management: Helping to track and manage IT assets such as computers, peripherals, and software licenses. This could involve inventory management, asset tagging, and disposal procedures.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate documentation of IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps. Additionally, assisting in generating reports on IT performance metrics, system utilization, and incident management.

  • Security Compliance: Assisting in implementing and enforcing IT security policies and procedures. This could involve monitoring security logs, conducting security audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Project Support: Supporting IT projects by assisting with research, testing, and implementation tasks. This might include deploying new technologies, upgrading systems, or integrating third-party solutions.

  • User Training and Education: Providing guidance and training to users on IT best practices, security awareness, and the use of IT systems and tools.

  • Stay Current with IT Trends: Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in technology, IT methodologies, and industry standards through self-study and participation in relevant training programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • HS or College student interested in a career in the Information Technology field

  • Good Communication skills

  • Ability to work in a team/collaborative environment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Gaming experience is a plus.

    Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
