SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Semi-Custom and Central IP Silicon (SCIPS) team is instrumental in developing semicustom silicon and logical acceleration and analog IP related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for an engineer with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

We are seeking a Principal Silicon Architect to join the team. You will be on the leading edge of computing, building lasting relationships with various cross-functional groups to develop high-performance and innovative System-on-Chip (SoC) Silicon and Intellectual Property (IP). You are expected to work with limited direction, have attention to detail and be able to provide crisp status of progress, issues, and risks on the program to the management team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the definition of next generation SoCs and world-class silicon acceleration IP blocks by collaborating with system and software stakeholders to define silicon requirements.

  • Author architecture specification of System-on-Chip (SoC) and silicon accelerator IP solutions.

  • Develop bit accurate functional models and performance models to inform and validatearchitectural requirements.

  • Supportimplementation teams in pre and post silicon to ensure features and performance meet the architectural requirements.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 9+ years of related technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience or internship experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience or internship experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience.

  • 9+ years experience in the areas of computer architecture, silicon design and/or silicon architecture modeling experience.

  • 3+ years experience in one or more of the following fields

  • Lossless Data compression algorithms (such as Deflate or Zstd)

  • Image/Video compression algorithms

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience.

  • 4+ years of experience in developing functional / performance cycle or bit-accurate models using C/C++ Silicon architecture modelling experience

  • Experience architecting world-class IPs and SoCs.

  • Effective communication skills to influence Azure business and engineering teams.

Silicon Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
