This is a job for a Senior Staff Accountant position with a company located in New Orleans, LA.

 

JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY: Supervises and supports finance staff in preparation, review and analysis of journal entries, general ledger tickets, account reconciliations and financial statements. Also responsible for administration of accounting software applications and the general ledger structure by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews staff journal entries daily. Prepares additional journal entries as required. Coordinates monthly close process and prepare related journal entries. Reviews financial statements. Prepares consolidated variance explanations. Reviews staff account reconciliations. Periodically coordinates collection of information for auditors and examiners and responds to questions. Supervises and participates in preparing and auditing materials requiring analyses of supporting documents and insures that all entries are entered into the system properly. Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective procedures. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow. Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures. Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates. Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances. Administers and maintains the general ledger system and other software used by the finance department. Completes various projects by the assigned due date or deadline, coordinating with other departments in the company. Secondary Duties: Provides backup support to supervised employees. Cross-trains in other areas within department to provide support as required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employees in the Finance Department of the Controllers Division and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with at least 2 years of related accounting experience: or equivalent combination of education and experience. A CPA designation is preferred, but not required. Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles. Experienced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products including, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing using the English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: No certification, licensure or registrations are required to successfully perform this job however a CPA designation is preferred. Computer Skills: Ability to learn or knowledge of, Mi rosoft Office products including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Ability to learn or knowledge of Outlook email program.

 

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines. Ability to operate related equipment to perform the essential job functions. Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions. Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions. Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 10 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an "undue hardship" then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
