MARAD Field Engineer Job Description
We are seeking a Field Engineer to support a mature contract with the Department of Transportation (DOT), Maritime Administration (MARAD), and Ready Reserve Force (RRF) Management System (RMS).
Candidate will work under very broad supervision in providing Tier I and Tier II support to 15+ vessels and support offices throughout one of these areas:
Atlantic Region – Norfolk, VA and Newport News, VA.
Gulf Region – New Orleans, LA and Beaumont, TX.
Pacific Region – Oakland, CA, Alameda, CA, and Benicia, CA.
Chosen individual will be responsible for all aspects of task-level project performance (i.e. technical, contractual, and administrative). Regularly exercise independent judgment, as well as a high-level of analytical skill in solving complex technical problems. On a day to day basis, will serve as government and contract representative for network support issues within assigned region to provide quality deliverables and practice ITIL Framework fundamentals. The Field Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of project performance to include but are not limited to the duties shown below.
Network Support Technician Job Duties:
Field experience supporting multiple sites.
Support RMS Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE) aboard ships, and at MARAD offices.
Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment and devices.
Installation, monitoring, and administration of Windows servers.
Monitoring security scan reports weekly and implementing recommended solutions.
Experience supporting users via remote support tools.
Experience supporting VPN issues using Cisco Any Connect.
Support ship activations/de-activations, training cruises, and sea trials.
Participate in ship replication scheduling during sea trials, activations and training cruises.
Perform hardware and software upgrades aboard ships and at MARAD offices, and track in daily Implementation Status Reports (ISR).
Deploy NSE major releases, patches, hotfixes, and applicable customizations aboard ships and at MARAD offices and track in ISR.
Support NSE training activities aboard ships and at MARAD offices.
Coordinate with NS5Esites to resolve replication issues (e.g., missing replication files, aborted files, etc.).
Remote troubleshooting and diagnostics of issues.
Resolve hardware tickets pertaining to Operating Area and update ticket statuses.
Documents network problems and resolution for future reference.
Assist in Helpdesk tasks by installing NSE scripts aboard ships and at MARAD offices, and track in ISR.
Perform data cleanup/archival for shipboard servers.
Perform RMS software upgrades and data cleanup/archival for regional server.
Manages system back-up and restore protocols (local tape storage and network replication).
Manage user accounts, permissions, email, anti-virus, anti-spam.
Secure network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
Coordinate upgrade of data network equipment to latest stable firmware releases.
Develop and submit Ship/Site Visit Reports for internal review.
Review technical documentation.
Providing in-person and remote support of user workstations, mobile devices and associated peripherals (printers, scanners, mobile broadband cards, etc.).
Utilize superior time management and personal accountability skills to prioritize and complete multiple independent and simultaneous projects.
Proactively track recurring tasks, and provide periodic progress updates as required.
Produce weekly/monthly status reports.
Liaise with peers in other regions and provide overlapping IT support (remote or on-site) as needed.
Maintain customer contacts to ensure conformity to all contractual obligations.
Monthly/bi-monthly travel to other sites within the region.
Skilled in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows 10, and Windows 7.
Skilled in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microsoft Office 2016, and Office 2013.
Experience with Microsoft Active Directory.
Experience supporting iPhones.
Experience with remote access tools like Bomgar.
Experience with ticketing systems like Remedy.
Basic TCP/IP network skills.
