The Field Structural Engineer is required to be involved in the day-to-day field-level discipline planning and execution as applicable inside the construction contractor's execution plan in their respective ISBLs. The role is to understand the hands-on work being executed, therefore being the first line of defense in finding holes and/or opportunities. Coordinates and monitors the activities of assigned contractors performing work within the Civil Structural disciplines. The expected outcome is one of early detection and mitigation of schedule and cost impacts. Enhanced early involvement creates value for the client expenditure while still achieving the required level of safety, quality, budget and schedule.

Reporting to the Field Engineering Manager, the Field Structural Engineer applies diversified knowledge of construction and technical principles, practices, and methods for a range of assignments requiring knowledge and experience with advanced methods, techniques, and procedures.

• Makes decisions independently as required to address and resolve problems as well as to plan and coordinate work.

• Provides construction engineering and technical support for a specific discipline on large or mega projects.

• Normally supervises two or more construction engineers.

• Remains knowledgeable of requirements for applicable codes and standards on a project.

• Receives and distributes project design documents.

• Manages site survey as well as provides horizontal and vertical control.

• Assists craftsmen, foreman, and project supervisor with regard to construction-related issues identified on drawings and other project documents.

• Often performs constructability assignments in the home office.

• Coordinates system completion and system turnover with regard to pre-commissioning and commissioning activities

• Performs technical evaluation of bids and administration of contracts, as applicable.

• Prepares material take-offs and prepares requisitions for the procurement of materials, services and equipment.

• Maintains the status of material deliveries.

• Provides construction engineering and design services, including technical interpretation of engineering and design documents.

• Works closely with home office engineering, construction and commissioning teams to identify and resolve engineering and design issues.

• Provides input for the development of project budgets and schedules.

• Helps identify potential scope changes and provides information needed to support Fluor’s Change

• Impact Assessment Program

• Perform inspection on rebar placement. Ensure quality of reinforced concrete construction executed per design drawings and all applicable codes. Provide field solutions to misfits and to suit site conditions.

• Oversee concrete construction and technical requirement such as thermal control, cformwork, shoring and curing.

• Perform inspection on structural steel erection. Including supports of Buildings, Machine supports, electrical cabling and equipment, and piping. Ensure quality of structural steel construction executed per design drawings, fabricator’s drawings, and applicable codes. Liaise between fabricator and construction team. Provide field solutions to misfits and to suit site conditions.

• Respond to field RFI from steel installation and concrete installation contractor.

• Request NCR to be raised when quality is not met. Support disposition and resolution of NCR.

• Coordinate and liaise with home office engineering team.

• Design of miscellaneous field pipe and cable tray supports and foundation.

• Other duties as assigned.
